Senior Phase Assessments begin on Tuesday, 16th January 2018.  All students should have their timetables – please see the School Office if you need a replacement copy.  If you have any questions about the exams, please see your class teacher or Miss Lee as soon as possible.  The last exam takes place on Friday, 26th January 2018.  Please remember that full school uniform must be worn at all times when students are in school for exams or to study.  Bags and mobile phones can’t be taken into the exam room.  Please make sure you bring pens, pencils, etc. and any necessary equipment for your exams.  All students return to school on Monday, 29th January 2018.  Happy studying and good luck with your exams!

P          College Applications

Adele Duffy (SDS Careers Advisor) will be offering support with college applications on Monday 29 January – all day in B108. Pupils should report there if they are planning to apply to college from August 2018.

P          BT Careers

BT are currently looking to fill around 700 positions across Scotland later this year, apprenticeships making up the bulk of these opportunities. They have some amazing Apprenticeships available at the moment in Field Engineering, Power Engineering, IT, Openreach Trainee, Customer Experience, Desk Based Engineer and Vehicle Technicians.

An open day has been arranged for the 7th of February at their Glasgow HQ. This is a great opportunity for young people to visit their centre. On the day they will have the chance to speak with department heads, they will be given a short presentation on the various opportunities, tour of the centre and a Q&A with current Apprentices.

If this is something you would be interested in, please see Miss Young to confirm places. It is important that you do so ASAP.

P          Duke of Edinburgh

A number of pupils have completed different sections of their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. You now need to ask your assessor to write a short report on how you got on. This can be done by giving your assessor your booklet and uploading a picture of the report into your evidence. If you do not have your booklet, your assessor can write a report on official headed paper.

I understand that you are revising for prelims at the moment, however you could ask your assessor to complete this and pick it up after your prelims.                                                                                                                                                                                              S Young

P          EMA – S5/6

EMA application forms can be collected from Miss Lee or downloaded from the South Lanarkshire Council website. On the Council website, click on ‘Education and Learning’, then ‘Secondary School Information’, then ‘Education Maintenance Allowance’.  If you need any help with this, please see Miss Lee.

It is your responsibility to complete and send the application form.

When you receive an award letter with your EMA number on it, bring this to Miss Lee who will then issue a copy of the Learning Agreement to be signed by your teachers and Parent/Guardian.  You should then return the completed Learning Agreement to Miss Lee and the school office will then process your EMA.

Only when you have completed all of the above will the payment process begin.  Please see Miss Lee if you have any questions about EMA.
